Biography

Mark became Bard in 2002, at the age of 33. He first began writing poetry when studying with the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids.

His influences range from William Blake to A.A. Milne and his unique mix of formal classical poetry with quirky humour and word play have led to his style being labelled 'Roger McGothic'!

He works as a psychotherapist and group facilitator and as an occasional actor, and when out of Bath, resides on the Devon coast with his artist wife Lian.

Mark also became known as one of the city's most popular and quirky tour guides, working alongside former bard Jules Landau on the Ryan's Classic City Tour buses and waxing lyrical on his beloved river Avon on the popular 'Cleopatra' boat trips.

One of his contributions to the city and to the Bardic Chair organisation is the setting up of this web site, to document and record all the people who have held and will hold these chairs throughout the years. This site has been created with the help of webmaster Dinah Randall and all those who have contributed biographies, poetry and historical pieces.

Mark was inspired to do this by the tradition of the very first Bards, whose responsibility it was to keep the histories and genealogies of the tribes and their chieftains. They did it by memorising vast amounts of information in the form of verse. We are doing it on the Net, but, hey, you have to move with the times! Mark hopes that a little Awen will shine on everyone who visits this site.

See To Will, another of my poems.

And finally, Stoney Littelon - The Solstice Womb, my winning poem.

Mark is now setting up the Bardic Chair in Exeter.
